Role Summary
This role is part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden.
We are looking for a detail oriented UI/Visual/Graphic Designer to join our Design System team, working with next generation in vehicle HMI solutions across multiple TRATON brands. You will contribute to shaping a multibrand design system for future digital interfaces, ensuring brand identity, clarity, user trust, and safety. In this role, you collaborate with cross functional teams to develop scalable, cohesive and technically implementable design system components.
Job Responsibilities
In this position, you will transform design requirements into structured, scalable and implementation ready system components. You will work hands on within our design system environment and ensure that visual, functional and technical aspects align across brands and teams.
In this role, you will:
• Develop a multibrand design system by translating brand identities into component libraries, design tokens and guidelines for next gen in vehicle HMIs.
• Create cohesive visual design systems using typographic hierarchy, grid based design and modernist principles to ensure clarity and consistency across brands.
• Apply human centred HMI principles to minimize cognitive load, enhance emotional trust and support safe glance behaviour through clear visual hierarchy, progressive disclosure and multimodal feedback.
• Organize and document components using tools such as Figma, Tokens Studio, structured file naming and scalable design variables—from atoms to full layouts.
• Collaborate closely with frontend developers to ensure code compatible components, including joint prototyping, code reviews and quality assurance.
• Work cross functionally with HMI researchers, interaction designers, product managers/owners, engineers and brand strategists to ensure technical feasibility and brand alignment.
• Mentor junior designers, advocate for design system best practices and support high standards in safety driven HMI design.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.
Who You Are
We are looking for someone who excels at the intersection between visual design, system thinking and technical collaboration. You combine an eye for detail with a structured approach, and you enjoy turning complexity into clarity. With curiosity and a collaborative mindset, you help drive our design system forward across brands and disciplines.
To succeed in this role, we believe you have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design or an equivalent field.
• Minimum three years of UI/visual design experience; automotive HMI/GUI design experience is highly desirable.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating design system work, visual hierarchy, grid systems, typography and storytelling.
• Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with design tokens and version controlled workflows.
• Solid understanding of human centred automotive HMI principles, including minimizing cognitive load and designing for trust and glance interaction.
• Experience collaborating with developers to ensure technically feasible, implementation ready design system deliverables.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Desired attributes:

• Experience building or maintaining design systems for complex embedded digital products.
• Knowledge of automotive safety standards and interaction guidelines.
• Skills in motion design.
This Is Us
Within TRATON Group R&D, you are an important part of something bigger. Joining us means gaining access to the ins and outs of the entire transportation industry.
You will be part of our multibrand Design System team, collaborating closely with experts in HMI, interaction design, engineering and brand identity. Together, we develop scalable design foundations for the next generation of TRATON’s in vehicle digital experiences.
