Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do.
Role Summary
Are you passionate about sustainable transportation and cutting-edge technology? Look no further! At TRATON, we’re driving the future of electrified vehicles — and we want you to be part of our journey.
As a System Performance Engineer within battery development for TRATON electric vehicles, you will take on the exciting challenge of investigating and calculating various versions of high-voltage batteries and how they affect overall system performance in propulsion and charging.
You will be part of the Value Creation Team (VCT) Energy Storage and a member of our Battery Performance Group. The specific unit focuses on lifetime, regulations, and safety within the battery system section. In this role, you will play an important part in shaping the direction of TRATON’s battery development, optimizing our battery systems in the smartest possible way to ensure the very best battery packs on the market.
This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden.
Job Responsibilities
You will work closely with colleagues both within the battery development department and in other parts of the electric vehicle organization. The key to successful outcomes lies within the Performance Group, of which you will be a part. Here, people in various roles — all focused on performance — meet and work together toward common goals.
As a System Engineer, your responsibility is to translate vehicle needs, understand Battery Management System (BMS) implementation, and align battery cell/pack capabilities. You will ensure seamless and efficient collaboration on a system level, spanning from hardware and software to final vehicle integration.
Main tasks include:
• Support the generation of technical KPIs for battery cell projects.
• Conduct technical reviews and evaluations for parallel battery projects.
• Act as a link to the vehicle team, representing the cell team regarding power performance.
• Provide technical support for BMS parameterization and validation method development.
• Deliver technical support and insights to external interfaces, including Sales & Marketing, Purchasing, Use Cases, and other VCTs.
Who You Are
We’re looking for a team member who is driven, results-oriented, and self-motivated. Sharing your results is just as important — within the cell team, the performance group, and across other collaboration arenas.
You’ll work closely with a colleague in the same area, which makes cooperation and curiosity essential. Since the arena is broad and spans across TRATON, you also need to be confident in reaching out, connecting with the right people, and sharing your results effectively.
We also believe you need:
• Experience in calculation and/or simulation.
• Knowledge of Li-ion batteries.
• Experience working with Matlab/Simulink/GT-Suite.
• Confidence in communicating in English, both written and spoken.
• A strong team spirit.
• The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
• A genuine interest in technology and a willingness to be part of the daily technical work.
• Some experience with agile working methods.
• Experience in analysis, preferably related to vehicles.
Competence in electrification or embedded systems technology is considered a merit.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.

Does all this sound like something to you? We look forward to receiving your application!

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

The Software factory at Scania, including embedded development, is undergoing a large transformation right now becoming more flow-oriented to be faster and with better quality! This affects how about 1000 employees are working with the development of Scania´s electrical and embedded systems.

One important factor for this to succeed is to have clear structures, processes, and information management in place. The transformation within Embedded means that the present way of working needs to be challenged and updated. Today legal requirements in this area are also increasing, for example, SUMS (Software Update Management system) and CSMS (Cyber Security Management System). Besides it, the Methods will be aligned with ISO 26262 standard.

We currently have two options for method coaches; we need to implement our Test methods but also Functional Safety methods in the organization.

Welcome to a team where we develop our skills together and share knowledge to create outstanding solutions.

Our team

The Embedded method development team is fresh and growing fast. Together with all co-workers involved in embedded processes and tools we either enhance existing methods or develop new methods. With a high focus on Safety, we aim to gain speed in our development work without jeopardizing the premium level of Scania products. The team is currently working in a modern workflow both remotely and in the office.

To succeed in our mission we embrace diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. Our group is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

Your new job

You will work cross-functionally in close collaboration with testers, other method developers, and tool developers.

Examples of working tasks:

• Implement methods by teaching the users in classes, and preparing the training material.
• Coaching the users/joining them, when they are using the method.
• Sell the methods within the organization. For example by joining technical meetings from other sections or similar.
• Feedback to your colleagues on what needs to be improved in the methods based on your experience from the coaching sessions.

Your profile

To succeed as a coach within Test management you are experienced in the testing of embedded systems in the automotive industry, and if you have good knowledge of ISO26262 it is an advantage. It is also meritorious if you have good knowledge of ISTQB foundation level. You are experienced in using test management systems.

If you are interested in the role of Functional Safety, it is also meritorious if you have good knowledge of cyber security and software updates.

Your ability to see the whole picture and how different parts within the test management system interact will be an asset in this role.

As a person, you are truly interested in other people’s opinions to understand the needs of different testers and propose solutions. You are very good at communication and have strong interpersonal skills.

Do you want to join and drive the shift to a sustainable transport system?
Electrification is in a more exciting phase than ever! The demand for competitive, climate smart, transport solutions increases rapidly. Scania is now investing heavily in battery test capabilities within performance and safety. This to be able to meet the demand from our customers and society as a whole. We are now looking for a motivated, agile and curious engineer with mechatronic background and passion for electrification!

About

Our group is diverse with different skillsets and backgrounds that together creates a winning team. We cherish an open dialog and our task is to mine knowledge out of the tests that we run through analysis and discussion. We, Battery cell and module Testing, are responsible for testing batteries from single cells to sub pack level. We have the complete test responsibility and we execute most of it ourselves in our own state of the art labs. Safety and abuse capabilities for internal testing are under development.

Your tasks

This position is aimed to strengthen our team within module testing. In this area we:

• Deploy large test matrixes with the aim set to understand how different usage parameters affect
• Investigate how the mechanical constraints of the module and pack design affect the performance of the battery cells
• Evaluate how the embedded control and measurement systems integrated to the batteries perform as well as the state-determining algorithms on sub system level.
• Keep a constant dialog with test stake holders. This is key for a successful knowledge transfer; communication skills are important.
• Work actively with improving our methods on a continuous basis and have a culture that welcomes new ideas and approaches.

Your profile

As mentioned above, diversity is key for success! You are likely an engineer with a master within mechatronics. Experience from automotive industry or laboratory work is highly meriting. You might have a strong analytical mindset with programming skills that like to reverse engineer how stuff works. Or, perhaps your strengths might lie in being a practical person, be out in the field and get the show on the road, the more cables the better! Regardless of your strengths, you respect and listen to your colleges as much as you like to present your own neatly analyzed results.

For further information, please contact

Jakob Öman, M.Sc, Head of Battery Performance Testing – UBCT, [email protected]

We look forward to receive your application including a CV, cover letter and copies of any degrees and certificates. Selections will be done on an ongoing basis.

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

The Software factory at Scania, including embedded development, is undergoing a large transformation right now, becoming more flow-oriented with the goal to be faster and with better quality!

Besides, the Methods will be aligned with ISO 26262 standard.

We currently need to further develop new embedded methods like TARA, HARA, Planning Functional safety, mapping ISO 26262, etc. We have different positions depending on your interest and background.

Welcome to a team where we develop our skills together and share knowledge to create outstanding solutions.

Our team

The Embedded method development team is fresh and growing fast. Together with all co-workers involved in embedded processes and tools we either enhance existing methods or develop new methods. Your new job

You will work cross-functionally in close collaboration with method users (testers or developers), and also with tool developers.

Examples of work tasks:

• Define the concept of a method by collecting experience and deep-diving into the needs
• Develop the method itself by discussing with stakeholders and describing it in a documented way
• Identify the need for tools. If they are needed you will define the function specifications.
• Implement the methods by teaching, coaching, and "selling" the methods into the organization.

Maintenance will be part of your responsibility. You will implement improvements and adapt the methods for the new business needs, based on the implementation experience.

Your profile

To succeed in this role you are experienced in automotive embedded systems and ISO 26262. Good knowledge of TARA, HARA, Cybersecurity, and Over the air updates are certainly an advantage.

Your ability to see the whole picture and how different parts affect the test management system will be an asset in this role. At the same time, you see the importance of getting things right and working meticulously with details. As a person, you are truly interested in other people’s opinions to understand the needs of different roles. You value collaborations and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Våra testmiljöer är främst Hardware In the Loop (HIL) men även Software In the Loop (SIL), fordon och kombinationer av dessa testmiljöer.

Våra testmiljöer är främst Hardware In the Loop (HIL) men även Software In the Loop (SIL), fordon och kombinationer av dessa testmiljöer.

Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.

Scania’s purpose is to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system, by developing safe, smart and energy-efficient transport solutions that are better for people and the planet.

It is a bold and exciting journey with no finite end. Our innovative spirit and determination are what keep us going until we reach the science-based targets that Scania, as one of the pioneers of the industry, has proudly committed to.

Developing self-driving vehicles is highly dependent on vehicles that can really take on the challenge of driving in real-life scenarios. Scania Autonomous Systems are looking for our next System Engineer who can drive an active and structured process with systems- and functional development for some of the required functions. To succeed in this we embrace diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. Our group are committed to build a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

Your future job
You will work closely together with your System Engineer colleagues, and also with stakeholders on different levels, for example:

• visit customers to understand customer demands
• plan and participate in the feature development of our product and to communicate with customers in the related functional areas.
• be part of designing how the system will operate and create system descriptions together with the implementation teams
• helping the management make decisions based on relevant input
• assisting our development teams in delivering on time
• spend some time in the vehicle to validate the behavior in customer like conditions on our test track and with customers.

It is also part of the mission to improve our way of working to higher standards and to decrease lead time of new features from concept to customer operations.

Who we think we are looking for
We are more interested in the questions you will ask, than what your answers to ours: we think you are a listener who is able to sort out relevant information and disseminate it within the organisation. We want our next System engineer to be a solution-oriented team player with ability to plan, drive, prioritize and cooperate with the development teams.  We believe you are curious about new technology and about systems engineering - that you like to develop an understanding of the big picture and how the dots are connected, but also about which detailed issues need addressing.

You like the challenge of communicating complex information in a clear way, in written form but also as a presenter. We believe that you have a background in engineering. Ideally, you have experience from software intense systems, however it's not necessary to be a programmer to succeed in this position. It's meritorious with knowledge of agile system development, general knowledge of cyber security, system enginnering methods and tools. Professional English skills are required (Swedish and other languages ??are meritorious).

If you share our passion for safe, efficient and sustainable transport solutions, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t completely match our wish list above - we are more interested in where you are heading than what you’ve done so far, and the right person will be given the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed. Driving licence is, however, a requirement.

Our offer to you
By joining Scania Autonomous Systems, you will be part of developing cutting edge technology. You will also get:

• Competent and friendly colleagues
• A workplace with drive and a "can do"-attitude, that at the same time puts work life balance first
• Great opportunities for personal development and great career opportunities
• Possibilities for international assignments

We offer an interesting and challenging job where there is plenty of scope for new ideas. Our corporate culture is characterised by openness, diversity and respect for the individual. Employees are our most important resource, so we invest in training our employees and giving them the opportunity to broaden their skills enabling them to grow with us.

In addition to personal and professional development opportunities, benefits such as company car, mutual bonus, occupational pension, flexible working hours, lunch at reduced prices and much more. If you live in Stockholm, we offer a direct bus service between Stockholm and Södertälje, Scania Job Express.
