Role Summary
This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden
We are looking at expanding our team with a Requirement manager to meet future challenges in the automotive industry.
We need to supply industry-leading performance and functionality to keep our position as a leader in the heavy-duty market. Currently, we are delivering our control system to several companies within the TRATON Group that are based in Sweden, Germany, and the U.S.
The powertrain domain is technically complex and developed to the best performance and standards on the market. The systems in this domain are key to the function, performance, and environmental impact of our products.
Job Responsibilities
The organization is very skilled and experienced so working with the organization on these complex topics will challenge and develop you as an engineer. You will contribute to the overall safety and Cybersecurity of Scania’s vehicles by working with requirement management and requirement engineering related activities for the development of powertrain control systems.
Main tasks for the role:
Manage and create safety/Security-related functional and technical system requirements. Interfacing with safety manager, Cyber-security manager, architects and HW/SW engineers, you'll be responsible for collecting and configuring safety-related system requirements within our requirements management tool (Polarion),as well as managing changes to those requirements
Requirements analysis: Using Polarion, you will be responsible for structuring and organizing the requirements to ensure clarity and completeness. You will lead requirements analysis and review activities with the cross-functional teams, and develop and maintain traceability to both stakeholder requirements and HW/SW requirements

Who You Are
You are passionate about the safety topics, and have very good communication and collaboration skills. We work with multiple parallel deliveries so you are good at creating an overview and structure for all the deliveries. You are also a curious analytic person and you are motivated by responsibility and enjoy solving problems in a structured way. You are able to drive topics independently.
Prior experience in working with automotive system and design experience for requirements capture and management is required. You have good competence in the usage of requirement management tools such as DOORS or Polarion, for the management of requirements. You also have experience of Functional Safety ISO 26262 in product development projects and experience in key safety analysis processes such as FTA and FMEA is meriting. Knowledge in concept of safety monitors in software and hardware is also meriting.
You are a graduate engineer who can express yourself both verbally and in writing in English. The ability to speak Swedish or the willingness to learn is advantageous. C/D driver's license is also meriting.

The team consists of 14 engineers with different roles such as System Owners, Functional Safety Managers, Safety Engineers, Requirement Manager/Engineer, Cybersecurity Manager and Cybersecurity Engineer for the Engine and Aftertreatment Control Systems, which are one of Scania’s most advanced real-time control systems. We are responsible to make sure that we meet Functional Safety standards and comply with Cybersecurity legislations in different markets such as EU, China and US.

As the Patent Department works in close cooperation with the product development, this means that there is a great deal of patent-related activity.

As one of our team members is retiring we are strengthening our team with another Patent Attorney in the field of automotive control systems.

Today we are 18 Attorneys and Assistants at the Patent Department and our office is located at Scania Technical Centre in Södertälje. The commute from Stockholm is easy with our own commuter bus departing from Cityterminalen and Liljeholmen.


This is what we offer

As a Patent Attorney at Scania you are responsible for the patent portfolio within a specific technical field. It is your responsibility that the products and services developed within this field are adequately protected on relevant markets and that it can be introduced on those markets without risk of being blocked by third party rights. Most of the prosecution in Sweden and before the EPO is made in-house and in other countries via local agents.

Within your field you have close contact with the engineers to harvest new inventions and with the management for decisions throughout the application process. You work closely with the development projects to gain insight about the long-term strategies. You are also an expert resource in IP related matter for other parts of the company, e.g. purchasing and marketing. You will also represent Scania in IP matters in development projects we have with other parties, for example within the VW group.

Our team members provide high quality service within their fields and to facilitate this we offer continuous personal development both in IP and areas related to Scania’s ways of working.


What you contribute

We are looking for a Patent Attorney with at least a few years’ experience from industry, Private Practice or a Patent Office. It is particularly advantageous if you are competent within the fields of connected vehicle functions and services, vehicle systems control, and/or autonomous vehicle drive. It is also advantageous if you are a European Patent Attorney or have started studying for the EQE.

You find it easy to interact with others but are also comfortable processing tasks on your own within your field. You must be open for new ideas and willing to change the way things are done. Since most of our correspondence is in English, you must be proficient in this in writing as well as speaking. It is also advantageous if you have at least basic knowledge of German.

Som patentingenjör på Scania har du ansvar för patentportföljen inom ett teknikområde. Det betyder att du ser till att tekniken som utvecklas inom området blir väl skyddad på relevanta marknader och att den är fri att användas. Merparten av handläggningen, t ex svaromål och invändningar, mot PRV och EPO gör du själv och i övriga länder via ombud.

Inom ditt teknikområde har du nära kontakt med såväl utvecklingsingenjörerna för att fånga upp nya uppfinningar som med ledningen, ofta i form av beslutsmöten. Du är nära involverad i utvecklingsprojekten för att få de mer långsiktiga strategierna. Du är även en expertresurs för övriga delar av Scania i frågor som rör patent, till exempel inköpsavdelningen. Du representerar även Scania när det gäller IP-frågor i gemensamma utvecklingsprojekt, t ex inom VW-koncernen.

För att kunna ge rätt service inom ditt ansvarsområde erbjuder vi dig kontinuerlig kompetensutveckling, både inom patentyrket och i hur Scania arbetar.

Din profil
Vi söker dig som är patentingenjör, gärna inom mekanik, med några års erfarenhet av patentarbete från industri, patentbyrå eller patentverk. Särskilt meriterande är om du har kompetens inom fordonsteknik, t.ex. av teknik kopplat till kylsystem, drivlina, förbränningsmotor, eller avgasefterbehandling. Det är även meriterande om du är färdig European Patent Attorney, eller har påbörjat dina EQE-studier.

Du har lätt för att samarbeta, men känner dig också bekväm i att själv driva patentfrågor inom ditt ansvarsområde. Du måste också vara öppen för nya idéer och förhållningssätt. Eftersom mycket av korrespondensen är med personer utanför Sverige måste du ha mycket goda kunskaper i engelska, såväl tal som skrift, och gärna även tyska.
