Who we are

The Interaction Design group is responsible for the interaction design for Scania’s trucks and buses. We are one out of five groups within the Product and Interaction Design department, together with Industrial Design, Model Makers, Digital Models and Ergonomics. As a group we have a central role in the creation of Scania´s future portfolio of products.

Scania is part of TRATON Industrial Operations, which include development centres in Södertälje, Munich, Chicago and São Paulo.

Our working environment is characterized by inclusion, team spirit, flat hierarchy and transparency. Currently the team’s focus is to investigate how trends such as digitalization, electrification and advanced driver assistance systems will shape the future driver workplace. The group consist of Interaction Designers, UX Designers, a Sound Designer and supported roles; Scrum Masters and UX Studio Engineers. We enjoy our work together as collaborative colleagues as we are in our Design Studio in Södertälje most of the week.   

 

Your work assignment

You put the human in the centre of all your design work, with the ambition to bring them the best possibly product experience.

You have a strong ambition in contributing to a more structured user insight approach throughout our projects.

You build your concepts on insights about the user needs and expectations.

You will interact with our users as a natural part of your workday.

You work cross-functionally in Scania and across Traton brands to identify synergies in research areas.

Success-factors in this is role is to be creative, collaborative and autonomous.

Previous work experience from the areas of HMI and UX is a must, experience from automotive is a big plus. Experience from tech companies with products including both physical and digital interactions is also highly qualifying. You hold a bachelor/master degree in Interaction Design, Industrial Design or equivalate. Your degree shall have been specialized within User Experience (UX) Design, Interaction Design, Human Machine Interaction (HMI).

Role Summary
We are now looking for a Design Engineer to our Propeller Shaft Team. This role offers a unique opportunity to explore your technical interests while contributing to a global mission within the TRATON R&D Group. Job Responsibilities
• You will work with “Design and Installation of Propeller Shaft” for both conventional and electric vehicles within the TRATON Group.
• As a Design Engineer you will be a member in a VCT-Team and work in a value flow to develop components with high customer value.
• You will collaborate with engineers, procurement teams, and global brands to ensure seamless integration of products.
• You will be a part of the team to develop the future Propeller Shaft Program and secure function and robustness of your components and sub-system with respect to weight, cost manufacturability and mountability.
• You will use CAD/Catia in your daily work with design and analysis.
• As your tasks will range from problem analysis to problem solving, you need to be a good communicator and team player.
• Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

Who You Are
We are seeking a self-motivated designer who is eager to learn and capable of working independently. Ideally, you have a technical background with expertise in forging, bearings, and installation processes. Your curiosity and interest in technology drive your understanding of product lifecycles and technical solutions.
You are an excellent communicator who enjoys collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders. Emotional stability is crucial, and you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Effective change management is essential for this role.

Who we are

The Interaction Design group is responsible for the interaction design for Scania’s trucks and buses. We are one out of five groups within the Product and Interaction Design department, together with Industrial Design, Model Makers, Digital Models and Ergonomics. As a group we have a central role in the creation of Scania´s future portfolio of products.

Scania is part of TRATON Industrial Operations, which include development centres in Södertälje, Munich, Chicago and São Paulo.

Our working environment is characterized by inclusion, team spirit, flat hierarchy and transparency. Currently the team’s focus is to investigate how trends such as digitalization, electrification and advanced driver assistance systems will shape the future driver workplace. The group consist of Interaction Designers, UX Designers, a Sound Designer and supported roles; Scrum Masters and UX Studio Engineers. Your work assignment

In this role, you will work in a cross-functional working group as a representative of the Innovation Office, which is a part of the department Research & Innovation Office at Scania R&D. The Innovation Office is led by Fredrik Pehrsson who have a background in both business development and design. Our environment and the transport needs of the society are undergoing major changes. Urbanization, climate change and digitalisation are examples of trends that create both challenges and opportunities for the sustainable and efficient transport systems of the future. By understanding and profiting from opportunities in this development, Scania wants to strengthen its position in sustainable transport.

Innovation Office develops new innovations and business opportunities for Scania beyond the company's current business. The work is mostly conducted in project form and ranges from trend and scenario analysis and systems research to exploratory design and business building. The new solutions developed can be aimed at Scania's existing market or completely new customers. The projects often involve colleagues from other parts of Scania and / or other companies as well as representatives of society, academia and research centers. Many projects take place within the framework of government research programs.

Projects can run anywhere from a few months to a few years and involve everything from a few people to extensive consortia consisting of dozens of outside organizations that contribute with their own resources. The work is usually strongly iterative and design-oriented. Design thinking permeates everything we do, from system level to business development.

As an Innovation Lead, your main responsibility will be to lead and facilitate work in the explorative projects that the Innovation Office is running, involving both company external and internal stakeholders and experts.

Tasks


• Participate in project teams doing exploratory research and innovation, as project / team leader and also in a more operational role, and contribute to new innovation by proactively driving the design work forward together with the team.
• Specifically leading the work package “Vehicle Design” in the ongoing research & innovation project ‘HITS’ (Sustainable Integrated Urban Transport of Goods)
• Support the group's discovery team in organizing and facilitating studies and workshops in understanding the world around us, such as trend research and scenario work.
• Continuously visualize and communicate results through engaging workshops to create insights both within your project and for different parts of Scania
• Support project management in the coordination with project partners and help project participants understand and practice design thinking

You will work with trend analysts, researchers, technical experts, designers who together form a strong team in the work of finding the transport and logistics solutions of the future.

 

Your profile

You are driven by great curiosity for the needs of both society and individual users and how you can contribute to satisfying these needs with new solutions. You have a desire to convey insights and empathy for user problems to your surroundings.  You have proven experience of leading a work from idea to an actual concept.  Sustainability is a leading star in your work

You have high social skills, like to present and are easy to collaborate in a project organization. You take initiative, plan, operate, and deliver independently within your own area of ??responsibility.

• Participate in project teams doing exploratory research and innovation, either as project / team leader or in a more operational role, and contribute to new innovation by proactively driving the design work forward together with the team
• Continuously visualize and communicate results through engaging workshops to create insights both within your project and for different parts of Scania
• Support project management in the coordination with project partners and help project participants understand and practice design thinking

You will work with trend analysts, technical experts, designers, entrepreneurs and innovation coaches who together form a strong team in the work of finding the transport and logistics solutions of the future. The work normally takes place at Scania R&D in Södertälje, at our innovation lab in Stockholm city or out in the field. Due to Covid-19, however, the work is currently conducted online.

Your profile

You are driven by a great curiosity for the needs of both society and individual users and how you can contribute to satisfying both of these needs with new solutions. You have a desire to convey insights and empathy for user problems to your surroundings. You are used to independently conduct user studies and transforming observations into insights, both yourself and through leading workshops with many participants. You have experience from contributing to and also taking a leading role in applying service design methods in project form.

 

You have high social skills, like to present and are easy to collaborate in a project organization. You take initiative, plan, operate, and deliver independently within your own area of ??responsibility.
